Donaire v. Vazquez

We are about to begin...a nice profile on Brandon Rios airing on HBO right now....

And coverage is set to begin live from San Antonio!

Donaire v. Vazquez will be up first.  Looking forward to this one as Donaire is on the cusp of true stardom.  Look for Donaire to put on an impressive performance knowing the world is watching.

The same can be said to a degree for Chavez, as he is on the cusp of stardom....he needs a great performance tonight.

And Jim Lampley has decided to go with an interesting set of eye glasses tonight....leopard print almost....very loud and out of place.

Left uppercuts from Donaire are landing at will.
Vazquez is hanging in there, landing jabs.
Donaire's speed advantage is apparent in this fight.
Less action, but easily Donaire's round....

Hard right by Vazquez lands.
Vazquez is throwing more now.
Trading blows, definitely the best round for Vazquez to this point.
Some may give this round to Vazquez since that was his best round of the fight, but I still feel as though Donaire won the round, throwing the more powerful shots.

Lederman did, in fact, give Round 5 to Vazquez.
Vazquez getting more comfortable, landing more frequently.
Donaire just misses a big hook.
Vazquez has new life now, landing his jabs...enough to take this round....

Donaire coming back strong.
Donaire lands an uppercut, as he was doing at will earlier.
Donaire lands a huge uppercut to the body! Ref gives Vazquez a second claiming it may have been low.
Fighters standing toe to toe, hard left by Donaire stuns Vazquez momentarily.
Close round, Donaire looks uncomfortable at times, but still winning this fight...

Vazquez is behind certainly, but he has fought back to make this competitive as it was all Donaire early.

Vazquez is not folding, giving Donaire a fight.
Big last 15 seconds for Donaire!  Landing multiple power punches as the round comes to a close!!

Donaire's face is showing that he has taken some punishment in this fight, but clearly not as much as Vazquez.
Vazquez keeps coming forward, but Donaire continues to land.

Donaire wins by split decision!!!!

Unreal that one judge could have scored this fight for Vazquez!!!!  I had this a near shutout for Donaire!

I could see giving Vazquez 2-3 rounds in this fight, possibly even 4, but I am at a loss for how anyone could have scored this fight 115-112 for Vazquez.

Donaire shows his left hand, looks as though he has at least a broken finger.

My thoughts.....good win for Donaire and good effort by Vazquez to come back and make this fight competitive....after the first 4 rounds it appeared as though Donaire would end this one early.
