Cesar Chavez Jr. v. Rubio

A nice tribute to Petronelli and Dundee, two great boxing trainers and ambassadors.

The HBO team has been discussing how Chavez had a great deal of difficulty making weight.

Chavez comes into the fight tonight weighing 181 lbs, Rubio 171 lbs.  This fight is at the 160 lb limit, so clearly significant rehydration has taken place for both fighters, especially Chavez.

Also just noted that Chavez was arrested with a DWI two weeks ago.

Chavez appears to be more accurate, but he is taking shots too.

Low blow by Rubio...brief pause to the match.

Another pause due to a Rubio low blow.
Nice combo to the head from Chavez.

Chavez is definitely controlling the tempo of the fight.
Rubio is landing, but seems to be falling behind on the scorecards....

Rubio grinding it out, but Chavez landing more cleanly.
End of the round turns into a dogfight with hooks coming from all angles.
Rubio just not doing enough.

Chavez comes forward, Rubio tries to fend him off.
Chavez continues to press forward.
Chavez lands two nice combos!
Rubio throwing a lot of punches this round, just needs to land more.

Nice combo from Rubio.
Less action this round thus far.

Both fighters landing, but it appears as though Chavez's punches are landing with more authority.

Lederman and I both have this 8-1 Chavez.
Chavez doing more damage when he lands, and clearly setting the pace for the fight.
Much of the same in this round....both fighters landing, lots of fighting on the inside, but Chavez just inflicting more damage.

Great combo to the head to start the round for Chavez!
Rubio is throwing and landing, but Chavez seems to be taking them well.
Both fighters showing a strong chin, really.
Rubio looking more lively in this round.

Good win for Chavez....lots of action.  Both fighters showed they had great chins tonight....there were a lot of hard hits tonight, but neither fighter ever appeared truly hurt or bothered.
